Hydroxypropyl Starch Ether (HPS)
HEC (Hydroxyethyl Cellulose)
With good water retention, thickening, suspension properties, MelaColl™ HEC offers functional properties and enhance product performancein emulsion-based building materials
Hydroxypropyl Starch Ether (HPS): Stable, soluble powder from plants, enhances building materials like tile adhesives, acting as a potent thickener and water retention agent for improved performance.
Hydroxypropyl Starch Ether (HPS) is a spray-dried white fine powder, made from natural plants after modification and high etherification treatment. It has good water solubility, and its aqueous solution is transparent and colorless. Our HPS product is very stable under acidic and alkaline conditions. Its starch gelatinization temperature is lower than ordinary starch, and it has higher viscosity stability when the temperature changes. Besides, etherified starch can achieve better freeze-thaw stability and transparency.
Our HPS product has been applied in a variety of building materials, such as tile adhesives, cement/gypsum mortar, and various putty powders (e.g., cement-based, gypsum-based and gray calcium-based putty powder).
Our HPS product is an excellent thickener and water retention agent. With a small dosage, it can effectively increase the slip resistance, improve the workability, and extend the open time of the material.
Hydroxypropyl Starch Ether (HPS) is a modified starch used across various industries for its unique properties, including thickening, water retention, and texture enhancement. Here's a concise list focusing on the areas of use for Hydroxypropyl Starch Ether without specifying product grades:
- Construction Materials: HPS is widely used as a binder, thickener, and water retention agent in dry mortar mixes, tile adhesives, and gypsum products to improve workability, adhesion, and open time.
- Food Industry: It serves as a thickener, stabilizer, and emulsifier in food products such as sauces, dressings, and bakery items, enhancing texture, stability, and moisture retention.
- Personal Care and Cosmetics: In personal care products, HPS is utilized as a film-former and viscosity enhancer in creams, lotions, and hair care products, contributing to a smooth and desirable texture.
- Pharmaceuticals: Employed as a binder and disintegrant in tablet formulations, HPS improves the compressibility and dissolution rate of pharmaceuticals, enhancing medication efficacy.
- Paper Industry: Used in paper manufacturing to enhance paper strength, smoothness, and printability, ensuring high-quality paper products.
- Textile Industry: HPS is applied as a sizing agent in textile production to improve the strength and weaving efficiency of yarns, enhancing fabric quality.
Hydroxypropyl Starch Ether's versatile functionality makes it a valuable additive across a broad spectrum of applications, from construction and food to personal care, pharmaceuticals, paper, and textiles, highlighting its importance in enhancing product quality and performance.
